I had been having symptoms of bloating, a pushing feeling in my stomach, tiredness, brain fog, severe allergies and general malaise for a few years. I decided to consult a naturopathic doctor after struggling with a hormonal imbalance for years. I had already seen other conventional doctors who always pushed several medications which I knew would never solve the actual source of the problem within my body. While I had changed my diet and made several lifestyle changes on my own already, I still struggled with keeping my labs and bloodwork results in check. I began searching for naturopathic doctors in my area and came across Dr. Maura's website. After reading such great reviews, I decided to seek her guidance and I am SO glad I did!! Not only does Dr. Maura take the time to truly learn about your health ailments, lifestyle, habits, concerns, etc., she comes up with an individual plan tailored just for YOU. I was initially nervous on how effective our telephone calls would be in the middle of a pandemic, but from the first phone call, Dr. Maura made me feel comfortable as if I was sitting face to face right in her office. I have had a great experience with Dr. Patel. He is warm and personable, which is really helpful when you are talking to a stranger about your poop! He ordered thorough testing, and even asked me if there were other tests that I wanted to do. That was HUGE, as I’ve had several doctors turn me down when I requested tests in the past. (That seriously blows my mind. If I want to be tested and am willing to pay for it, WHY NOT?!?!) The conventional doctors I saw about my digestive problems were absolutely useless. They wanted me to accept IBS-D as a condition with no cure, and could only offer me drugs to slow down my intestinal function and hopefully reduce my symptoms. However, after working with Dr. Patel for about 6 months, the severe IBS that I had been struggling with for 3 years finally started to heal! Additionally, I really appreciate that I was able to do my testing at home and my office visits online.
