Quick Questions: How Do I Choose A Probiotic?
Welcome to Quick Questions. Today’s question is from my patient David who asks, “How do you choose a probiotic? There’s so many. How do you choose the right one?”
Here are my top three tips. First, look for a probiotic that contains multiple strains of two species of probiotic. One is lactobacillus, the other is bifidobacterium. And look for a probiotic that has between 1 and 10 billion CFU per capsule. Secondly look for a probiotic that contains prebiotics which are carbohydrates that help probiotics to thrive in the gut.
Thirdly, buy a couple of bottles. Rotate your probiotic daily or every other bottle because diversity and variation in terms of microorganisms in the gut is key. If you know somebody who might benefit from this video please share it with them. Thanks for watching.
